In an amazingly shortsighted move, Sony has declared that it will not support the use of its proprietary Blu Ray format for adult entertainment purposes. Because of this, none of the licensed manufacturers capable of producing the discs are permitted to accept contracts from adult companies. Big deal? Probably not in the long run, except for Sony. (Remember, these are the folks who lost the format wars with Betamax and that weird crippled mini-cdr format.) The consumer DVD player market is moving quickly to produce players which support both Blu Ray and the competing HD-DVD formats. Besides, as folks at AdultDex have been quick to point out, HD-DVD format is actually cheaper to produce and holds more data. As with VHS, the technical superiority of the competing technology is unlikely to win out over cost, convenience, and the availability of the content that drives the marketplace; porn!
