Blu-Ray Back-Pedals

Posted by mikezillion at January 18th, 2007

281851blu-ray_lead.jpgWell, it’s not as if I couldn’t have seen it coming. A representative of the Blu-Ray Disc Association has “clarified” Sony’s position on support for adult content. Apparently, the replicators are permitted to burn adult Blu-Ray DVD’s, but not at any facility which also burns content for Disney. I can see it, kinda. I’m willing to take a wait-and-see approach to this one.

Mazel Tov Buck Angel!

Posted by mikezillion at January 17th, 2007

buckangel005.jpgI recently wrote about female-to-male transsexual performer Buck Angel’s nominations from AVN. I’m really excited to learn that Buck has won Transsexual Performer of the Year. Way to go, in a very competitive category!

Dinner with Mr. B

Posted by mikezillion at January 16th, 2007

logo.gifMy partner and I had dinner last night with the nice folks who run Mr. B Leather Goods out of Amsterdam. They distribute a lot of our CyberBears DVD’s to the European market, and they were in town meeting with the various studios they carry after attending the AVN show in Las Vegas last week. The owner of this 13-year-old company and his partner of 23 years (married just a year and a half ago) were there, along with our sales contact (whose partner of eight years wasn’t able to make it). It was inspiring to see such solid relationships, and to hear how old-fashioned and provincial the American attitude about gay marriage sounds to people from other countries. We really are living on the outskirts of the world.

More Payment Security Options

Posted by mikezillion at January 15th, 2007

1-15-07-paypalkey.jpgI kinda like the new PayPal security USB key, but I think such technology might have an even greater impact on security for adult sites. You know me, always looking for new and improved ways to keep kids from accessing porn online. Check it out, and let me know if you think I’m just whistling to the moon.

Are DVD’s Dead?

Posted by mikezillion at January 14th, 2007

I think it might be too early to declare the death of the DVD. However, there are those who disagree with me. For example, industry veteran Andrew Blake has decided to forgo releasing new content on DVD in favor of making HD-resolution clips of artsy and exotic all-girl porn available for download on his site, AndrewBlakeHD.com. He’s also planning to sell iPod formatted clips. It’s an interesting approach, and certainly makes for good headlines this early in the game.

Breasts, Babe

Posted by mikezillion at January 13th, 2007

taylorbabelogo.jpgOne of my favorite examples of the positive impact possible from porn is the non-profit organization Breast Awareness Benefits Everyone (B.A.B.E.). This group uses the breast-centric focus of straight porn to draw attention–and funding–to the very serious issue of breast cancer. Already dozens of famous porn celebrities have donated their time and energy to help support this cause. Kudos!

Bear Party Three Nomination

Posted by mikezillion at January 13th, 2007

bear_party_3.jpgWell color me stoked. I just found out that GayVN has nominated my company’s Bear Party Three DVD as best bear title of 2006. We here at CyberBears started the Bear Party series a few years back, with the notion that we could hire performers to stage sex acts at an actual bear party, film the entertainment, and make movies out of the resulting footage. The series has been an unparalleled success for us. Looking forward to the awards ceremony!

So Much For Blue Movies

Posted by mikezillion at January 12th, 2007

In an amazingly shortsighted move, Sony has declared that it will not support the use of its proprietary Blu Ray format for adult entertainment purposes. Because of this, none of the licensed manufacturers capable of producing the discs are permitted to accept contracts from adult companies. Big deal? Probably not in the long run, except for Sony. (Remember, these are the folks who lost the format wars with Betamax and that weird crippled mini-cdr format.) The consumer DVD player market is moving quickly to produce players which support both Blu Ray and the competing HD-DVD formats. Besides, as folks at AdultDex have been quick to point out, HD-DVD format is actually cheaper to produce and holds more data. As with VHS, the technical superiority of the competing technology is unlikely to win out over cost, convenience, and the availability of the content that drives the marketplace; porn!

What about Booble?

Posted by mikezillion at January 10th, 2007

booble_logo.pngSo just as I was getting excited about the positive reception the adult industry has been getting from mainstream networks like Showtime, I found out that another major network which will be broadcasting the Superbowl has refused to accept $50,000,000 to include an advertisement from the great adult search engine, Booble. How can anyone object to a company with a cute name like that? I’m sure the ad would have been just as tasteful and appropriate as the beer advertisements they usually air.

Merger Mania

Posted by mikezillion at January 9th, 2007

f.jpgIt’s a good time to be in the adult entertainment industry. Two of the biggest players in the Video On Demand world may well be on the verge of merging forces. I’ve used both AEBN and Naked Sword for years to stream titles out to customers, and I can only anticipate good things coming from this.
