So there’s this ratings agency called the MPAA. They’re the folks who decide whether a mainstream movie gets a rating of G, PG, R, NC-17, etc. And the thing is, they don’t seem to approve of oral sex.

At least, not when it’s the woman who’s getting serviced.

Case in point is the perfectly innocent poster for Kevin Smith’s upcoming new movie, Zack and Miri Make a Porno. It shows two fully clothed people, standing and looking into the camera, in side by side frames. If you look closely at the bottom of the poster, you can see the tops of the heads of the two people facing away from the camera, and toward the crotches of their standing counterparts.

Oral sex may be implied. It’s pretty vague.

What’s not vague is that there is a woman enjoying herself. Somehow, that always sets the MPAA off. (Not that the presence of the word “Porno” in the title was likely to make them relax any.) There’s a long history of MPAA ratings going to NC-17 when there was implied oral sex being performed on a woman, while much more explicit presentations of oral sex performed on a man can be seen in many movies rated R and even PG-13.

Why can’t we all get off?
