Toothpaste and Erotica

Posted by mikezillion at October 15th, 2007

I have to hand it to Jack over at the Gay Porn Blog. I can’t imagine how he comes up with this stuff. Here’s one very sexy (but not explicit) clip, featuring hot gay porn star Francois Sagat, that I personally can’t get enough of:

Kinky Blog Posting

Posted by mikezillion at August 27th, 2007

One of my new favorite blogs is Behind Kink, published by the good folks who run Kink.com out of the beautiful San Francisco Armory Building. They’ve been doing for video blogging what “Got Milk” did for television commercials. For example, a recent posting includes a great behind-the-scenes video about how they evaluate straight male talent for their productions. (Sometimes I’m really glad I’m gay!)

Body Image and Pervasive Porn

Posted by mikezillion at June 3rd, 2007

Exhibitionism is becoming part of normal expressive sexuality, but it’s starting to affect our children in negative ways. Given the trend, it may be that exhibitionists with alternative body types, such as the popular Suicide Girls site, could help pave the way to a more accepting and healthy body image for all of us.

Bondage and Legal Discipline

Posted by mikezillion at May 23rd, 2007

The webmaster (and S/M bondage master) of a kinky slave-oriented site is facing 30 years in jail for exceeding the consent of a woman who is portrayed on the site. He claims to have had model releases and letters from the woman offering unlimited use of her image, not to mention her body. But the unlimited consent offered by the woman was revoked along the way. The webmaster’s appeal, based in part on the private and consensual nature of their relationship, has been denied due to the commercial aspects.

Titan and Folsom

Posted by mikezillion at May 21st, 2007

Titan Media has signed up to be the first adult gay studio to sponsor the annual Folsom Street Fair in San Francisco at the “Presenting Sponsor” level, right beside Miller Beer and NakedSword. The agreement includes a three-year commitment to the sponsorship, and the launching of a new line of leather-themed Folsom DVD’s from Titan. Sounds like a good deal all around!

What’s Ok for Circle K

Posted by mikezillion at April 18th, 2007

I consider it good news when major corporations decide to loosen their standards about selling pornographic material. Circle K, the convenience store chains which operate in many Shell Oil locations, has received tacit approval from Shell Oil to permit the sale of Playboy and Penthouse magazines as “adult sophisticates.” Shell-branded convenience stores will still not carry any adult products. Shell executive Otto Meyers explained that magazines such as Playboy and Hustler do not fit the definition of pornography held by the general public. Any specific issues of community standards violation will still not be tolerated, at the discretion of the retailers.

Print is not dead, but it will evolve

Posted by mikezillion at March 25th, 2007

It makes me smile when I read about how print is dead. All the experts point to the trends to prove their conclusion. Sales are down, revenues are down, newsstands are emptier, and all the focus is on new and dynamic communications technologies. Even many of our favorite porn magazines have closed up shop. That’s all about the business model, not about the medium.

Print is not dead, just as sure as the computer did not deliver on the threat of a paperless office. Perhaps some of the ways print has been used will need to adapt to the marketplace. For my audience of international urban bears and bear lovers, there is no better alternative than a convenient, resilient print magazine. That doesn’t mean that the websites will die. I’m still here blogging, aren’t I? It just means that the new and old options will adapt to complement each other.

COPA Struck Down by Federal Judge

Posted by mikezillion at March 23rd, 2007

I’m not sure how I feel about this one. I didn’t like the wording of the Child Online Protection Act one little bit, but I did support the objectives. Now an 84-page ruling from U.S. District Judge Lowell Reed in Philadelphia has decreed the proposed law unconstitutional for two key reasons: the wording was sufficiently over-broad to have a chilling effect on free speech, and the approach was not the least restrictive and most effective method available.

I have to agree. Any law banning all speech which is considered “harmful to minors” in a given medium leaves much too much room for interpretation. On the other hand, kids just aren’t mature enough to be exposed to some of the adult themes in legitimate pornography. That is a concern we all need to take into consideration when we make any information public. The judge in this case recommends use of modern filtering technology as a more appropriate technique. While flawed at best, filtering technology does allow publishers to use their good will and best judgment to tag information. What the filtering companies do with the tags is another issue….

Horrifying - Loyalty Lists in 2007

Posted by mikezillion at March 16th, 2007

I’ve been watching with horror as the news of officially-ordered presidential loyalty lists for federal prosecutors, and the subsequent firing of seven competent attorneys at the pleasure of the president, leaked out to the media. I knew it was bad, but I had no idea it was this bad. Now it seems that my overactive senses of doom and paranoia are getting another boost from evidence that there was an anti-porn agenda in this mess as well. 2008 can’t come soon enough for me!

At least there was a little amusing news about obscenity prosecutions and other political hypocrisy to lighten my mood today.

Validation

Posted by mikezillion at March 5th, 2007

It’s nice to see the Internet Adult Film Database expanding its scope to include gay titles. As of today, some 18,000 gay adult movies have been added. It’s cool, because now I can find at least one of my own titles there. (I am such an attention pig!)
